How does caffeine affect hydration in our bodies?

Many people will tell you that drinking coffee, drinking caffeine will dehydrate you. According to recent studies, this is a myth. Coffee actually aids in hydration! Pretty cool right?

"It is true that caffeinated fluids can contribute to your daily fluid requirement. Drinking caffeine–containing beverages as part of a normal lifestyle doesn't cause fluid loss in excess of the volume ingested. While caffeinated drinks may have a mild diuretic effect — meaning that they may cause the need to urinate — they don't appear to increase the risk of dehydration. Still, caffeinated drinks can cause headaches and insomnia in some people. Water is probably your best bet to stay hydrated. It's calorie–free, caffeine–free, inexpensive and readily available." http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/caffeinated-drinks/faq-20057965

"...For instance, one study found that caffeine didn't hinder hydration among athletes who consumed caffeinated beverages to rehydrate throughout practices in the heat.

This new study adds to the evidence, that among everyday coffee drinkers — say, those of us who routinely sip a cup of Joe or two at the office — the old wives' tale that coffee will lead to dehydration is really just that: a tale." - http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2014/01/13/262175623/coffee-myth-busting-cup-of-joe-may-help-hydration-and-memory

Here's just another article to further our argument that caffeine doesn't hurt hydration.
