Grip Strength

We are in the midst of our Adventure Ready series on rock climbing and each week we incorporate a rock climbing skill into our workouts.

Grip Strength is our first skill. Why is grip strength important? It's our first skill to teach because it's one of the most obvious when you think of rock climbing. If you can't hold onto what you're climbing, you won't get very far. Finger strength is one of the most important skills needed in order to be a good rock climber.

Grip strength is much more than just your fingers and hands though. It also includes your arm muscles. You need the whole unit to work together for optimal mobility and to reduce the risk of injuries when rock climbing.

Here are some great resources for increasing your grip strength:

1. Finger & Back Arm Strength Exercises

2. Finger Strength Training

Adventure Ready Series - Paddle Boarding

Earlier this month, we started our third Adventure Ready series focusing on Paddle Boarding. During the 8 weeks going through March and April, we are incorporating a new skill about paddle boarding into our workouts.  You learn different variations of that skill on Push Days, Pull Days and Whim Days.

The 8 skills are:

  1. portaging/craft transport
  2. shoulder stability/control
  3. paddle stroke power
  4. balance
  5. core strength
  6. hip/torso mobility
  7. rescue skills
  8. craft remount

Then after the series ends we are hosting a big Paddle Boarding event to put these newly learned skills into action!

Halloween Earn Your Beer Challenge

Saturday, October 31 2-5PM

A new microbrewery opened up in BAREfit's original stomping ground... the home of all things Gaslight... J-Town, Kentucky! If you haven't ventured out to the J-Tizzy (as locals call it) lately, you're in for a treat. There has been a lot of stuff popping up over there late, including 3rd Turn Brewing! This brewery is made out of a reclaimed church building, and peeps have been saying it's fantastic! So we are going to meet @ the giant military helicopter out front at Veteran's Memorial Park for a special outdoor PACK WORKout... then we're headed to 3rd Turn for beer and fun! If anyone wants to share an Uber back to the gym, y'all are welcomed to work that our among yourselves and park at BAREfit on Logan Street. We'll be wrapping up around 4:30 or 5, so this can be a fun pre-game for your Halloween evening, or at least some adult fun before trick or treating w/ the minions. This event is FREE but space will be limited to 20 people. So RSVP now! Also, we hope to welcome former BAREfitters from the J-Town/Middletown locations of yesteryear! See y'all there.
