Our Community Efforts

Our BAREFIT community is committed to ongoing volunteer efforts, working toward improving conditions, and helping bring positive change to the city of Louisville and beyond. Here is a list of our current non-profit partners, as well as our own internal projects as of January 2024.

At this time, in order to be a part of our volunteer team, you need to be an active member of our gym. If you're interested in becoming a member, and would like to use volunteer hours as currency to pay for your training, reach out to us here to get started.

If you're already a member, and you'd like to get started volunteering, please complete the volunteer request form here. Our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you for next steps once your request in complete. In the meantime, check out some of our volunteering opportunities below.

Tribe Animal SancTuary

Bio: Our dream to rescue and provide forever homes to animals began in April 2014, when we purchased a property with a large house, a barn and multiple pastures.  We moved in in July 2014, with 3 dogs and 3 cats.  In August 2014, we welcomed two Thoroughbred horses.  Today, we are home to 15 special needs and/or medically fragile cats, 10 special needs and/or medically fragile dogs, 6 horses, 4 sheep and 3 goats.  In May 2017, our dream grew, when we purchased additional adjoining property.  In June 2019, our dream grew again, when we decided to move from a private sancatuary to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Mission: Tribe Animal Sanctuary is committed to providing sanctuary for abused, neglected and homeless animals. Through education and experience, we strive to encourage a vegan lifestyle and inspire change in the way society sees and treats animals.

How To Connect: If you are currently an active BAREFIT member, and you've already joined our volunteer team, here are the next steps to begin serving with Tribe:

Tribe Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit vegan farm sanctuary, providing medical care and sanctuary to abused, neglected, and abandoned animals. Tribe is home to horses, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, turkeys, chickens, rabbits, dogs, and cats. Tribe volunteers need to be 18 years or older; be COVID vaccinated as to help protect the animals, other volunteers, and us; able to volunteer at least 5 hours a month on a Sunday, 11AM-4PM. New volunteers shadow and work with experienced volunteers, so you can see if sanctuary work is volunteer work you enjoy. If you can meet the requirements, please let me know and we can schedule for an agreeable Sunday. To get started email me @ BECKI@TRIBESANCTUARY.ORG

Sincerely, Becki Streif Co-Founder and Managing Director Tribe Animal Sanctuary
